Daycare

we took Sam to daycare today so he could have some time to play with us there ... he loved the play and could care less if we were there or not. Mom is still freaking out so she's going to be the one that will need the adjusting!

Sam picked on the youngest girl (9 mo's) and tried to take her eyes out (she was NOT impressed to say the least) & then had lots of fun playing with the oldest guy (18 mo's) and taking his toys. Hopefully daycare has lots of patience to teach being gentle & taking turns....otherwise, I might not be working long!

Sam in his daycare room

Climbing in the ring to play - he basically just falls into this thing and the daycare staff go "oh no, are you ok?" and he's looking at them like "what's the problem - I fall all the time!"
having fun exploring new toys
ps...Happy 11 month birthday Sam!

Christmas #1

We had Stuart's family in Calgary this weekend for an early Christmas. Lots of fun, and of course we were way too spoiled. I have TONS of pictures from the weekend so I will post them on facebook in the new year, but here are a few highlights

wrestling with Grandpa

a rare cuddle moment that Baba got to enjoy

opening presents. Sam was actually not very interested in opening the presents, but he was interested in the toys. opposite of what I expected!

a new toy to push around - sideways of course :)

yay! dad got new shoes for me to chew

SUCH a fun weekend!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to everyone ... from St. Lucia! :)

Dear Santa

Dear Santa, I have been a very good boy this year ...

I looked at the toy catalogue to see what I would like ...

grrrr, I definitely don't want that!

if I eat it, they can't buy it for me

In loving memory

In loving memory of the great grandfather that Sam gets to share a birthday with

Harold Breuer: January 23, 1924 - December 7, 2010

I took Sam to the hospital to see grandpa on Friday, December 3rd. It was the last day that grandpa was coherent and Sam had big smiles and he had a blast crawling all over the hospital bed with no respect for the frail man laying under those covers. He kept trying to crawl "over" grandpa and poor grandpa would let out this little moan (Sam is no light man). I spent most of the visit running from one side of the bed to the other to get Sam and Grandpa said "he is a wild child!" and I said "you got that right grandpa, he takes all my energy". I'm so glad that we got to go visit him and later that night he told other visitors all about our visit and how much he enjoyed it. :)

We will miss you grandpa but Sam is a lucky man to have gotten to meet you and share his birthday with you.

it's only fun until someone gets hurt ...

Sam was having a blast in the kitchen the other day as he discovered he could open & close the kitchen drawers ... I was afraid of what was coming but he was having so much fun so I hoped if he stayed seated he would be safe. (ps...we were baking, hence all the crumbs on the floor!).

pps...he is fine!

First Xmas Party

we took Sam to the Nexen Children's Xmas Party .... he never got to see Santa because the lineups were so long. But he had a great time nonetheless.

crashed in the car so straight to the playpen when we got home! snowsuit and all (notice how he sleeps with his eyes open --- is that genetic???)

The toy box is just as fun as the toys

Snow, Snow and more Snow

well, it has been snowing here for 2 days...and it keeps snowing!

yesterday I took Sam outside to explore the snow and he wasn't too impressed. I'm not surprised because it was cold and his snow suit is pretty bulky, making it hard to move. plus his hands are in mitts so he can't touch the snow so he was kinda just sitting there in limbo. we stayed out for about 5 minutes (and probably took about 20 minutes to get all the snow gear on, hehe)

Sam's first snow angel
oooo....snow....
Can we just go in mom?
Hat Hair

today we went for a walk in the stroller and he enjoyed that much more! he still is my outdoor guy :)

Too active & the flash is too bright...

these are my excuses for the drop-off in blog posts. Sam is sooo active, it is very hard to get a picture of him. And, he has this new thing when I get the camera out, he opens his mouth and squints his eyes. I thought I was just taking bad pics but today I wanted to get a pic of him playing in his room and he kept "posing" for me....so here it is!

Lest we forget

Thank you to all those who have sacrificed so that we can have freedom that we too often take for granted.

I took Sam to the Remembrance Day Ceremony this morning and told him he is a lucky guy to live in a country with freedom. (really, all he cared about was that he was cold & bored so we didn't stay too long, which I expected would happen)

A moment of silence:

And, no more silence from Sam ... time for us to make our departure

Walking?? Almost!

Grandma says Sam will be walking at 9 months...
Mom says Sam will be walking at 10 months...
This is his compromise: semi-walking at 9.5 months...

Helping with dishes

Sam likes to "help" us load & unload the dishwasher. Last night he got right into it to help!

I can't reach the rack of dishes ... I'll have to get closer

are you proud of me for helping??

Such a boy!

my true boy ... he loves to growl, wrestle & get into all sorts of trouble!!

Look what I can get away with when mom is behind the camera

Oops, falling down

And, back up again ... I win!

in other news, he had his 9 month checkup today and it took twice as long as it normally does because curious Sam needed to check out everything the doctor had. :) Luckily, she was actually impressed. He weighs 18lbs, 6oz & is 28 inches tall. And of course all healthy.

What goes up must come down

isn't he so smart??? :) still working out the kinks as you can see on the last step ... but he's been coming down all day by himself!

Happy Halloween!

We always have fun dressing up for halloween ... this year was no exception & we were The Wizard of Oz Characters. Very popular with the neighbors & scored lots of candy...how fun now that we have a little guy to use as an excuse to trick or treat! :)

Getting ready to go out in the cold

Sam in his new winter coat from grandma & grandpa! (they felt sorry for him the last time I posted a pic and he was squashed in his baby snowsuit) he definitely liked the coat - chattered away our whole walk!

Born Leader

after Sam discovered how easy dad's work was, he moved on to grandpa's work...he picked it up very clearly and is explaining how it is done! succession plan established :)

here, let me just log in ...

See, it's quite simple, let me show you....

Dinner Theatre

we were in Saskatoon for thanksgiving and had a great time ... Sam had a great time too -especially playing with his food. he definitely kept us entertained at all our meals ... who needs to pay for dinner theatre when you have a Sam?!

"eating" a bran muffin at breakfast
drinking from a glass for the first time (baba suggested this and it was a big hit!)... but it did not take long until he learned how to blow bubbles in the glass and that is WAY more fun than actually drinking the milk!

ahhh, hard work ... now I'm stuffed & ready for a bath!
